Stage 2: Krauchenwies Bregenz (Lake Constance)

Long and windy

In the morning we got up packed our items and quickly hit the road. Our first stop after 1 km was a nice cafe to get breakfast.

After that we got going, I was really not looking forward to this stage since it was long and the countryside rather boring, not ugly but very rural and after 30 mins you have seen it all. But this is how it is going bikepacking you simply have to take what’s in front of you on the route.

Unexpectedly we were also hit hard by wind.

This was the first time this bugger made our lives difficult. Looking at the forecast we knew it was going to be strong but I expected it more from the side, but it felt like it was blowing right into our faces for two thirds of the route. Going against the wind on a bike is no fun. I ten times rather go uphill, because there your fighting against a more or less constant resistance and you know what is coming. Headwind is just applying random forces on you, it pulls on you sometimes hard sometimes less, sometimes harder, making it impossible to find a steady pedaling rhythm. Ah and of course attaching bike packs and especially a trailer does not help at all to get your cw-value down. So it became tough it wasn’t raining but all grey with trees leaning sideways in the wind were not really adding to the mood.

In the end we needed 3 more stops one in Ravensburg which is definitely worth a visit, another one somewhere in the woods to give Anouk some space to roam and a third one in Lindau because we needed it at Lake Constance 5km before our final destination at a hotel in Bregenz.

We had a dinner at a burger Kebap place close to the lake close to a nice playground.
