Stage 3: Bregenz – Landquart

First Steps

The 3rd started with a huge excitement for us. While we were having breakfast in the hotel Anouk suddenly stood up and made her first steps on her own. The feeling as a parent seeing this is simply undescribable.

Adding to this we had bright sun shine. AND tailwind and a really nice stage in front of us which would take us once passed Lake Constance on a well built bike path along the Rhine river straight into Switzerland and the alps.

So:

  • flying (almost) on your bike along the route with the tailwind
  • on a broad and well paved bike path
  • along a river through meadows with blooming flowers
  • in front of you the snow covered peaks of the alps
  • proud as hell of your kid

Sometimes live can’t get any better from one day to another.

So we raced on our high mood made a stop at a nice farm cafe and continued our way. At some point we realised that actually on the other river bank this was not Switzerland but the tiny country of Liechtenstein, so the next bridge we crossed the river. Simply to have been there and making it the fourth country we biked in during this trip. (In three of them we were on one day)

Hint: To other bikers the tarmac on the bike path in Liechtenstein was smoother than in Switzerland 😉 (there is one on both sides of the river)

So in the end we almost averaged 24km/h and arrived on a nice camp ground in Landquart in Switzerland. The first time we really felt in the mountains. Again the temperatures were still cool so we rented another hut (woody) were we had a great night, surrounded by the mountains and a stream flowing not to far away.

Later at the camground 🙂
