Stage 8: Vigevano – Castel San Giovani

This wasn’t on the plan

After we got oursevelves some really good croissants from a bakery nearby we packed our things and got going.

There is not too much to say about this stage. Since there was no campsite near by our destination we picked a Bed & Breakfast somehwere in the countryside a bit off our route (a decision that had pros and cons 😉 ).

On our way to get there we made a stop in the nice city of Pavia. After that we crossed the Po river and rode further into Italy. The next stop we made somewhere in the middle of nowhere behind a closed restaurant, we couldn’t stay in the open since it simply got too hot and this was the only place where could find a larger patch of shadow.

Since the bed and breakfast did not offer dinner and also there was no restaurant around we had to make another stop to get groceries to get dinner. We found a town with A playground in the center where Anouk could play and we found a supermarket. While playing with Anouk we started a conversation with an older man. After we told our story he wanted to call the press.

As mentioned the B&B had pros and cons.

Pro: it was beautiful, not expensive at all, and also the landscape was super beautiful.

Con: It was in the hills, and quite off the main roads, and the little roads were steep, really steep, too steep for me to go up with a trailer, I had to stop in hte middle of the hill.

So what got me in the end was not the 1000m climbing without break to cross the alps nor doing 70-90kms a day but a little road somewhere in the back country. I had to wait for Anja to get back to help me push bike + trailer up the hill. To make things even better Anouk was sitting in her trailer and laughing out loud while we sweared and pushed. And we had to repeat this two more times.

In the end we were really happy to arrive. The B&B itself was great.
