Stage 11: Borgo Val Di Toro – Levanto

Sea here we come

The day started with a great breakfast in our lovely B&B. Once we had all our things packed again we descended back into village, where we noticed that we are on the same road the Giro d’Italia would pass by a few days later.

In any case for us it was now time to cross the Apennin mountains the barrier between and the see. The pass we would take was named pass of the 100 crosses.

so after a bit of up and down we quickly reached the small mountain road which winded itself up the moutains through once again a beautiful landscape. Going up there actually was tough looking at the distance and the height we climbed it is actually comparable to the 2 stages in the alps. So were quite relieved when we made it to the top. Up there we had a nice break and enjoyed the view. I actually was hoping to see the sea, but it turned out we would first need to descend and then cross another chain of mountains before getting the sea in viewing distance.

So we followed the road down through the valleys and one more time the wind was not on our side, meaning keep peddling strong even though we were going down.

And then suddenly after a rather long tunnel the sea was in front of us. What a relief. And the only way to get there was to follow the road down hill. We reached the lovely town called Levanto which was just next to the towns of Cinque Terre along the coast line and found a nice campground.

The campground itself was rather full but we were lucky since we only had a tent they had some nice spots where cars could not enter. We both (okay especially me) after riding for so long I definitely needed a break so we decided to stay there for a additional night.
