19: Bolsena – Bracciano

From lake to lake

After oru usual breakfast and putting all our things on our bikes we hit the road again towards the next lakes on our route. For this we would have to cross the city Viterbo and afterwards a long climb with 500meters of climbing awaited us.

Passing through th city wass definitely not the greatest biking experience, but we mad our through it without a problem except one little detour. We must have somehow missed the city center or at least where we rode there was no nice place to stop and also lookign at what was still in front of us it we decided it was too early for a stop and continued pedaling.

We then made a stop almost at the top of the mountian near the ride somewhere in the green where we had a nice picknick and then continued our way. Since we were quite high above sea level everthing was green and not that hot and also there was little traffic on the road, great riding conditions!

We looked form the top at Lago Vico and continued our way. From there it was a great long descend to our destionation for this stage which was Lago Bracciano. The end of the stage took

Again we would be camping at the lakeside. And once more we had a remarkable experiencing with the campsite I had chosen. looking at their webiste it seemed like a really fancy place, alone for the tent pitches they had 3 different pricing categories. So we were quite curious to see where would be sleeping. It started funny as the access to the road was a narrow sandy path. The entrance building was really nicely set up and everyhting looked quite polished, when we finally went through the checkin procedure – on our stays we had really everything, from really sticking to the process making copy of all 3 passports, paying in advance with or without water with or without electricity, to “just put up your tent and give me the money somewhen before you leave” – this was definitely on of the first category. Now I was a bit excited to see when the differtn tent pitch categories came into play, but when we asked where we could set up the tent they just set, oh whereever you want somehwere close to the lake, they already a few others. There were no marked tent pitches or anything else structuringthe place at all 😀

The other funny part the other 2 tents also belonged to bikepackers, a couple from Siwtzerland who actually stayed on the same campground in Bolsena as we did the night before and a couple from the Netherlands. Since we arrived quite early we had plenty of time to take a swim in the lake, take care of our laundry and bikes, bikes there was also a small grocery shop nearby where we could get food for dinner. It was espeically great for Anouk since there were many things to disciver and she had plent of space to roam. All in all this was had a really pleasant stay there.

Also worth noting of course we were the only bikepackers with a little kid, and I guess we gave some inspirations to the others that live isn’t over once you become parents and if you adapt a little a lot is possible. How it is different we noticed at night, the couple without kids went to bead early to be fit in the morning, Anja and I stayed up much longer once and after Anouk was sleeping and enjoyed the time for ourselves sitting at the lake and enjoying the nice night.
