1: Chiang Mai – Mae Tang

After a nice breakfast in the old town of Chiang Mai we started pedaling. The planned route was quickly found and we left the city as quickly as possible.

Following as told by our planning tool alltrails we soon found ourselves on small roads in the backcountry. Driving there was simply a pleasure. Perfect cycling weather conditions ~25 degrees and bright sunshine and really good road conditions, mostly smooth tarmac and very little traffic. What a great start. Also there were no really uphills on the plan and the route was not too long 57kilometers really good for us since we just recovered from a cold and haven’t sat on our bikes since two weeks.

After two thirds of the track we made a stop at a Elephant sanctuary we were could see Elephants and feed them, as a little side program for Anouk. Looking back I think Anouk while of course the elephant caused a big “WOOW” and she fed them as well, she was more interested in the baby dogs that were there, but Anja was totally taken by feeding the elephant sugar cane and bananas.

After that it was another 20 kms until our first stop in a small town with a very nice homestay.

Pictures will follow soon, so stay tuned 🙂
