2: Mae Tang – Phrao

First Mountain

Well actually when I planned the route I considered this stage as a flat stage. Noticed later that there is actually a climb in there, nothing serious, also the owner in our homestay said it is a decent uphill. Well I almost died, it feels my whole strength is gone, due to this stupid cold. But in the end I survived knowing it will get better. However I no idea who I am supposed to manage the stage tomorrow, this time there is a real mountain, the biggest one on our schedule, woohoo this is going to be fun!

But coming back to this stage, the weather was cloudy which meant not so nice pictures, but again perfect for biking, temperatures above 20 degrees, perfect. The road this time was a no backroad therefore wide and little traffic so we made good progress. Once we passed the mountain we entered a beautfiful valley which we followed basically until the end of the route. Which was the little city Phrao. It lies at the end of the valley surrounded by mountains on three sides.

The entertainment program this time was to visit a hot spring. We’ve been to other hot springs in Thailand before, but this one was really nice they had a nice little pool heated by the spring and in the beginning we had it only for us. Later a woman showed up who used the warm water for what looked like her daily shower (we are really in the back country now)

After a long stay there and two stops for coffee we finally arrived in Phrao and then at our accomodation for the night, the thing is that we wanted a pool and the only option was quite far outside of the town. (there are only 2 accommodations available in Phrao on booking.com) This again was impressive it is a huge area with many little bungalows in the middle of some rice and coffee fields, very beatiful but very remote. We entered the are and in the end some guy showed up, not speaking a word English and just gave us a room key and the remote control for the air-condition. The pool was already closed but since we were at the hot springs before it was not too bad. Again in the restaraunt there was only one lady who did not speak a word English but with the help of google translate we managed to order food out of the 5 options that were on the menu 😀

But don’t worry the plae is really great, it seems the beds are new and everything is spotless clean and the surrounding is simply gorgeous.
